Windward Fund uses a fiscal sponsorship model to incubate nonprofit projects on the frontlines of climate crisis mitigation and environmental conservation efforts. We provide projects with necessary support to run efficiently and achieve their environmental and social impact goals. Fiscal sponsorship, a common philanthropic practice, allows Windward to serve as a shared operational home to nonprofits, enabling them to pursue their programmatic missions while Windward provides administrative support. Explore a sampling of projects hosted at Windward Fund below.

Collectrify supports grassroots and base-building organizations and their leaders through direct funding, technical assistance, and a national Learning Community Collaboratory Network—a unique forum where they provide a dedicated space for funders and community practitioners to collaboratively build trust, foster community, and engage in mutual learning. Collectrify’s funding model is designed to ensure housing and energy affordability for everyone because they support community-driven climate solutions that advance equitable building electrification at scale.

Hive Fund for Climate and Gender Justice

Hive Fund raises funds and makes grants to groups working to accelerate the transition from dirty to clean energy in ways that center justice, redistribute power, and create healthier, safer, and more prosperous communities. Its grantmaking is focused in the US South—a region whose high pollution levels, abundant clean energy opportunities, and legacy of environmental justice leadership make it critical for global climate progress. Hive Fund’s grant dollars go to organizations led by impactful leaders—nearly three quarters of them Black, Brown, Indigenous, and Asian American and Pacific Islander women and gender-nonconforming people—that have historically been overlooked and undervalued by philanthropy.
